After the first few weeks I cried less and less but every now and then there are moments that it hits me and I fall apart. Like 2 weeks ago I wanted to get an iPhone but the T-mobile lady told me that there was no way of uploading my voicemails and text messages, most importantly the ones between me and my dad. So I sat outside the T-mobile store and wept. After weeping I went back in and told the nice lady that I could not give up my phone yet.
Anyway that has been going on. I also went to Zimbabwe to mourn my dad and get closure. It had been almost 10years since I had seen my relatives and friends. It was also interesting to compare how different life is in Zimbabwe. I love my home country and it's part of who I am. Sadly I think I've become too comfortable in the first world. I whined about the lack of free wi-fi. I whined about the lack of electricity and clean water sometimes. I complained about the smoke in my eyes when I went to visit my grandma in the village. I hated that pedestrians are treated like 2nd class citizens, as if they are totally dispensable. Drivers will run you over even if you probably have the right of way! It was hard not having Starbucks! I also didn't have a car so I took public transport everywhere. I LOVED that because even in the U.S I have always wanted to live in a city with abundant public transport.
Other random things encounter I had while I was traveling: the McDonald's in the Frankfurt International Airport does not have a dollar menu and one of the girls in that airport was amazingly rude . I usually stay calm when getting bad service but I don't know if it was the emotion of everything or the traveling fatigue but I went off! Raised my voice and everything. The McDonald's in that airport had cute little flowers on each table. The little cup of coffee in this picture cost me $2 (no refills).
Enough of that. Here are a few pictures that make me smile:
I saw this guy in Addis Ababa. Being a hoosier now, I just had to have a moment of silence for our beloved Peyton Manning who is now with the Broncos.
